Signs You May Need a Filling

• Sensitivity to sweet, hot or cold food and drink
• A sharp edge, a hole you can feel, or food catching in the same spot
• Pain when you bite down
• A dark spot on a tooth, or a filling that has chipped or fallen out

Decay does not always hurt, which is why small cavities are usually found at a check-up and clean. Filled early, a cavity is a quick, inexpensive fix. Left alone, it can reach the nerve and need root canal treatment or an extraction.

What Happens During a Filling

1. Numbing. Local anaesthetic is used whenever the decay is close to the nerve.
2. Cleaning. The decay is removed and the tooth is cleaned.
3. Filling. Tooth-coloured composite is placed in layers, set with a light, then shaped and polished to match your bite.

You are told the cost before any treatment starts. We accept all health funds with on-the-spot HICAPS claims, the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) for eligible children, NSW Oral Health Fee for Service vouchers and DVA Gold and White cards.
